My 2010 Dreams/Wishes/Goals
Some are for me... some are for some real people and others are for fictional people LOL.... Just read and you shall understand.
I wish for 2010 to be a year full of surprises and grandiose things. Things that make my heart sing, and my eyes tear up! Things that make me stand around and go huh, check that out. I want to be awed, amazed, and just purely out of my mind with loving every moment it has to offer.
I made some changes to my life in the past 4 months, where I have truly come into my own. I want this path to continue. I want to chase the impossible dreams, and show that they are really possible. I want to make a difference everywhere I can. I want to count in more ways than one. I want to be appreciated for who I am, what I have to offer, and I deserve that... and I want to remember that this year.
I want some frivolous things too.. I am not going to lie.. I want to shop at Me & Ro a few more times... I want to go see SVU film in NYC, I want to go to the JHF Gala and dress up like its my prom (which I never went to) and love my life... I would love to meet MH, but thats not a requirement... I just want to know that I was there to celebrate JHF and all they do and have done... I want to see the rest of NYC, I want to change my address to NY, I want to change my ID to a driver's license, I want to know that I am back and school and on the road to something amazing... I want to know that someday I will be like Olivia Benson.. that I will be a SVU Detective or a DV Detective or catching pedophiles online in a Computer Crimes Unit...
So maybe they aren't all frivolous, but they are my dreams/goals for 2010 and they will happen... And I will lose about 40 pounds and look fabulous and I will rock the physical portion of the Police Exam... I will take them by storm and I will get a uniform and a badge and everything... I have decided that 2010 is the year for no negotiations or excuses... It's time to rock this life... and do all I can.. Its time to make my faeries proud ....
It's just time to make it my own....
Final resolution... will be eating better.. I will cook amazing and healthy ... I will live somewhere I love and drive a car I love (every once in awhile)... and just be exhuberant every minute of every day no matter what happens.... I just cannot let things get me down anymore... And this is the year...

Books Made Into TV/Movies
So one goes along and they read a fantabulous (yes its a word .. hush) book, and then you get all excited because it is going to be brought to life. Why do we get excited? The filmed version is never nearly as good as the book was, and often leaves us looking back at the book shaking our heads because of the tragedy that occurred. I often find myself saying I really wish they had not done that. Like I would rather only have the option of having it in my head over being able to see it brought to life as well.
I understand that not all facts of the book can be brought to the big (or little) screen, but I do think that the editing choices should be made more carefully. Like re-read the book and take a second look, how would the book read if that piece was missing. I think that this should be a requirement of all ventures of this sort. Because too often a book will go to screen and they will take out a huge hunk of the storyline or change something up so much that they lose the entire essence of the book. At that point, I think that the idea for the screen version should be scrapped and we all move on.
What brings up this rant you may ask? Well this year alone, I came across 3 separate occurrences where the book to film transition went so horribly, that I could not bear it. My examples are Harry Potter & the Half Blood Prince, but that was not to be a surprise as all have varied from the original source. While I expected the usual level of variance, I did not understand the need to totally downplay the largest moment the book had to offer. They took a huge moment for all characters involved and made it seem like someone was merely eating a sandwich.
My second example, is My Sister's Keeper. This movie annoyed me so much that I literally said aloud and really loud "What the Hell" while sitting in the movie theater watching with my friends (coincidentally, all of us having read the book, exclaimed it at the same time). This movie took the entire essence and point, shall we say, of the book and destroyed it in a two second twist. The irony and everything that made the story the story completely gone in two seconds of film. I have truly never been so outraged in my life. Like, seriously, what was the point of making the movie if you had no plans of sticking to the essence of the story?
My final example, is the Women's Murder Club. It is a short-lived television series that was based on a series of 9 books written by James Patterson. While I walked into watching this series expecting to be disappointed, and not being wrong, it was probably the least offensive of all. However, they did take one minor character and make them a major piece of the series, which to this day made no sense to me at all. Additionally, while most of the characters survived the switch from printed word to film fairly well, there were a few that got completely squashed.
So I end my rant with the question that I had at the beginning, what on earth is the point of making the transition, if you are not keeping the essence of what is in the printed word. Answers anyone?

Bill O'Reilly Needs To Get a Grip
With all of the craziness going on in the world today, and every day, the thing that Bill O'Reilly decides he has to address on his show, is the fact that his LAST NAME (only) was mentioned on Law & Order: SVU.... Granted it was not painted in a fabulous light, but it is called entertainment and fiction, therefore he needs to chill out. The man needs to discuss things that are far worse in the world, rather than a show that has a purpose of educating the world on various and assorted hushed topics.. Topics that people choose to pretend don't exist, yet they are very real and very harmful to those involved. Yet those things are not something to be discussed on his show. O'Reilly does not talk about the fact that women are raped every day, that children are abused every day, that people murder others, etc... He does not discuss the after affects that these actions have on their victims and what not. He will be one of the first to stand in line to tell you that as a rape victim, you don't have the right to abort the child, even though its the product of probably one of the most traumatic events in ones life... But, being that he is a guy, guess it would not matter anyway. So, to sum up, Bill O'Reilly needs to get a grip, and step off my cast and crew of Law & Order: SVU, and let them keep getting the word out about things that Bill O'Reilly is not brave enough to speak about himself. And now I am done ranting for a moment.
